Communication guidelines for Personal Best

Personal Best is a stimulating project designed to help unemployed people into work and training. We defined tone of voice for project communications as motivational, simple, friendly, honest and action-orientated. I wrote guidelines using that same tone of voice.

Personal Best aims to appeal to and motivate people from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds. English is not always the reader’s first language. Communication is only successful if the target audience is able to understand and act upon the information. So clarity and directness are the hallmarks of all Personal Best communications.

Make your words:

SIMPLE: to ensure the message is understood and remembered.
Do:
Use short sentences. Use frequently used words.

Don’t:
Use excessively intricate language that not many people know and sentences that ramble on and on and on.
